No Nose Smiley :)

I've been a fan of square foot gardening for years.  Our first one was in Kellyville Ridge where we had one bed with the squares.  The concept just makes sense.  Break down the spacing based on a 1 square foot square.  In metric terms that's a 30 cm (ish!) square. This time I bought some garden beds from Bunnings and just used them.  We have finally landed on a design we like incorporating our chicken coop and the 4 garden beds. This is what we ended up with in the front yard. One of the garden beds has been in storage so looks very new!  Over time it will age.  Each square is just a tad under 1.2m.  It's actually about 1.140m on the inside.  So each square will be around 28.5cm. I just bought the equivalent of Mel's mix.  It's expensive!  But worth it as we have tried the mix before and it does work well. The mix is 1/3 each of vermiculite, peat moss and a mixed compost. It's been a while since the last post.  I constantly have ideas about what to post on but then find I lack the time to post and once I do sit down, I've forgotten what I was going to post about! Anyway this one is fairly mundane and just an update on our movements.  Basically we're moving house!  Will, myself and Sprocket are moving down to Lugarno.  We have managed to secure a waterview house for rent -- and the biggest bonus (other than the view!!) is that it should fit all our stuff.  It even has an underhouse storage area and workshop.  Most of this we didn't even realise when we went for the open for inspection as there were about 15 groups of people looking at the same time we were, so it was fairly hectic.  I'm actually quite surprised we got the house in retrospect as apparently there were other people who even offered more than the rent price.  The week we applied we also had two others we had applied for.  Both of those were highe...

I'm taking a couple of weeks of leave and in that time the plan is to complete the paving of a path to the back compost bin and also clean out the garage (and house!) so that we can park two cars in the garage. Check out the before and WIP photos of the paving... I started this morning at 6am and completed the paving/moulding part by 11.15am.  Just the cementing in to go and then planting in the Pennyroyal :). Before, there is just some bare dirt and me trying to level it but still allow some 'fall' so that the drainage is away from our block.   Also found a stray tomato plant peeking out of the compost bin, so as long as Will didn't stand on it when helping mould the pavers, we may actually get some Roma tomatoes this year.  I assume it was from the Roma tomatoes from last season... although it could be any tomato we have eaten (or rather NOT eaten) since.
